Who is Goldie? She is 32' long, 13'2" tall and weighs 10,000lb. She is our RV as named by Lily. A few months ago we asked the girls if they wanted to give it a name. They had a fun time throwing around many silly suggestions but Goldie stuck.
Goldie is a 2017 Crusader fifth wheel built by Prime Time Manufacturing. A fifth wheel is a camper trailer that hitches into the bed of a pickup truck. Our pickup is a 2016 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty (no name yet).
We spent a while deciding between a camper trailer or single unit motor coach. Ultimately it came down to two deciding factors. First was safety. Our girls are still in car seats and in a motor coach we would have buckled them in at the dinette at least 10 feet behind us with no air bags or any other safety features. The second factor was the need for a vehicle at our destinations so we can explore while leaving our "home" at the campground. A motor coach would have required us to tow a car behind it anyway. A fifth wheel gives us the flexibility to unhitch the trailer and use the truck to explore. For our needs a fifth wheel was definitely the right choice.
