June 28 (Day 18) - Utah bound

We left Silt, our last site in Colorado and headed onto our adventures in Utah. Shortly after crossing over the border there was a pullover point with a lookout. It was very scenic and a good opportunity to get fresh air and stretch our legs as we climbed up the rock lined hill to the lookout point.

When we finally arrived at Portal RV Park in Moab we were immediately greeted by the warmth of the triple digit temperature. We setup camp very quickly.

Because it was so hot here our plan was to beat the heat and get started very early the next day. We thought it would be best to use our time this afternoon to make the short drive into Arches National Park and go to the Visitors Center for park maps and the girl's Jr Ranger books so the next day we could immediately start exploring. The people who had been in the park looked extremely overheated and thirsty and we were not wanting to join their ranks. The visitor center was very interesting with information on the arch formations. They had a telescope pointed to the red rock and it was really cool to see it up close. We had read and learned about lichen (the growth on the rocks usually a green or black color) and were using the telescopes to spot it. There was a computer you could use to see the possible flowers blooming based on the month. We watched the very informative and interesting movie while we were at the visitor center too.

Armed with what we needed for tomorrow we headed to the Village Market to get some groceries for our stay here. We drove through the cute little town filled with stores, souvenir shops, ice cream parlors and restaurants. On the way to the market we noticed a stand on the side of the road selling locally grown peaches so on the way back we made sure to stop to buy a basket. We went back to the RV for a quick dinner and a swim in the pool. We all really liked the pool here. The girls liked that there was a shallow end on each side. Once we had a nice, refreshing swim we headed home for showers and bed.
