The girls played on the playground while Adam and I hitched and broke down camp. Today we were headed to the Redwoods National & State Parks in Northwest California. It would be a 300 mile drive to the Mystic Forest RV Park in Klamath.
As part of the pre-trip research Adam found a restaurant located right on the highway we were traveling where the shoulder seemed wide and supposedly trucks and RV’s stop often. As it got closer to lunch time we were all hoping this info was correct. Once we saw the Peg House we were happy to see it definitely wouldn’t be a problem and onto the shoulder we went. They had a covered courtyard to sit and enjoy your food. We were grateful to be in the fresh air and get a break from the drive. Lily chose their cheesy garlic bread and really liked it.
We made this as short of a stop as possible. As soon as we finished we continued the ride to our campground. As we got close we went over a bridge with a large gold bear statue perched on each corner.
When Adam checked us in the woman told him we would have the best site on the campground. She was definitely correct! It was a little tricky to back into this site because there were some large trees we had to curve around. I got out and carefully guided Adam in and we did it without much trouble. Once we were in the site we all immediately fell in love with our spot here. We were secluded in our own little nook in the woods surrounded by incredible tall redwood trees and an enormous amount of outdoor space.
The girls and I walked around the campground and looked around the store while Adam set up camp. Along the far left end of the campground we found a very cool small tunnel made of a hollowed out enormous redwood tree trunk. The girls also liked the game room which had a foosball table and pacman machine. The very plain, musty building did not phase them. Once Adam finished we walked back over to show him everything we found.
We enjoyed our site for the rest of the evening. We made a fire, cooked our dinner, roasted marshmallows and sat outside enjoying the evening. It was so nice to be in this rustic setting with the fire going that we stayed around the campfire well after dark. We were being silly and telling ghost stories. Lily had the idea to use a flashlight to illuminate your face when it was your turn. As it started to get late and the fire dwindled down we knew we should go inside and get to bed. We sadly got water to completely put it out and went off to dreamland.
