This morning there was a lot of mixed emotions as we broke down camp and hitched. We were all feeling sad to move on from Vasa Park for a few reasons. The first was because this was an absolutely incredible place to stay and we felt very fortunate to call one of their 6 full hook up sites “home” for a few days. We also couldn’t help but notice today was the beginning of our last month on this journey. Another reason was up until today we were travelling away from home as we made it all the way west and then all the way north. Today would mark the first time we started heading back east. The girls went over to the playground one last time while we were getting ready to leave. They loved swinging with such a beautiful view and they thought their merry-go-round was so much fun.
Our next destination was Glacier National Park in northern Montana. This was too far of a distance for us to do in one day so we planned a stop over in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. We left around 8am and drove 300 miles to Blackwell Island RV Resort making two stops for gas and food.
We arrived around 1:30pm and were happy to have plenty of time to relax at our new campground which was also waterfront. When Adam booked this campground he reserved a premium site so we could have a pull thru long enough to stay hitched. This always makes setting up at arrival and leaving in the morning much easier for a one night stay. The premium site also meant we were only a short walk away from the river.
When we finished setting up camp we headed over to the beach. There were several multi-colored Adirondack chairs that lined the shore. I moved several under a tree so that we would have a shady place to sit. Lily saved her chips from lunch and brought them with her. She loved sitting in her brightly colored chair to have her snack.
Coming from Lake Sammamish we were a little spoiled when it came to staying waterfront. We still enjoyed this spot and found it to be unlike any other as it was right on the Spokane River where it meets Coeur d'Alene Lake. The river is an outlet so the water is flowing from the lake into the Spokane River. There was no sand. The beach and river bottom were tons of tiny little pebbles so the girls were very glad they had their water shoes. There was lots of shallow water to play and swim.
When Adam checked in he saw they sold ice cream treats. As we were enjoying our new spot he mentioned this and the girls of course had to go over to get something. They brought their frozen treats back to our seats to enjoy.
Their treats cooled them off and they were immediately ready to go back into the water again. This time they decided to take their green float in to navigate the water (this was the float the sweet girl gave them at Lake Powell). Adam joined them and they were having a blast floating around together. The girls alternated between digging in the beach and going into the water for the rest of the afternoon and well into the evening.
We rarely eat pizza two nights in a row but this was again a case where we didn't want to leave the beach to go cook dinner. Adam called a number of restaurants in the area and struggled to find one that would deliver. Eventually he found a small pizza shop that seemed like it was a husband and wife team running it with no other staff. The husband said they don't usually deliver to this RV park but he would run it over for us if Adam would meet him at the front of the park so he didn't get lost looking for our site. Adam of course had no problem. We enjoyed our pizza on the beach for the second night in a row. The girls continued swimming and we read our books until it got dark. Then we headed back to the camper for bed. Tomorrow we wake up early and head to Glacier.
