August 30 (Day 81) - On our way home

As we woke up this morning it was very difficult to wrap our heads around the fact that our trip was coming to an end. Eighty days of non-stop adventure, moving from destination to destination as we made a loop around this amazing country we are so fortunate to call home. We had a quick breakfast in the camper before hitching up and hitting the road.

At 9am we were leaving Niagara. Thankfully the border check point entering back into the United States was just as easy as going into Canada. It took us 6 hours to drive 249 miles (with some stops for fuel and food) to our last campsite of the trip, Nittany Mountain KOA in New Columbia, PA.

As we got within 30 minutes of the KOA I tried to convince Adam to keep going all the way home. Now that our trip was complete I was ready to just get back to our house. My pleas were unsuccessful and at 3pm we arrived. It turned out that Adam made the right call as this ended up being a really fun campground filled with activities to keep us entertained.

At 4 o’ clock there was a fire truck ride around the campground. We all wanted to participate. The riders consisted of one teenage boy and our family. We each climbed the ladder to get to the benches at the top of the fire engine. They blasted great tunes as we drove through the wooded grounds. We had the best time singing and bopping to the music as the breeze hit our faces.

Since we consumed an enormous amount of ice cream on this trip we decided it would be fitting to do so one final time. They had a variety of specialty cones. Adam got a pretzel one, Ella a chocolate, chocolate chip and I got a chocolate chip cookie one. Lily decided to skip the cone. We relaxed in the Adirondack chairs outside of the store while we enjoyed the weather and our treat.

Everyday at 5 o’clock the campers were allowed to help feed their many goats. Ella, Lily and I had a blast participating even with some of the goats pinning us to the gates and kicking us in our guts. My favorite was when the baby goats would stand on the perches and eat out of my hand. We stayed with the goats for about 30 minutes feeding, petting and repeating.

As soon as we were done we washed our hands extremely well and then re-washed a few more times to be safe. Now that we were all clean we headed to the playground.

The variety of apparatus was so cool even Adam and I played. There was a zipline that Adam and the girls did. I thought I was going to as well. I even tried to get onto the seat but I just couldn’t bring myself to let it happen. We were all laughing so hard our sides were hurting. At the end of the line the seat swung back and forth with gusto and it was just as much fun for the spectators as it was the rider.

Next up we played on the giant disc swing. The girls and I kicked off our shoes and got into place. Adam pushed us and we were squealing and screaming as we swung to and fro.

I headed back to the camper a bit before Adam and the girls. As they made their way back they went to check out the pool. Somehow Ella, fully dressed, managed to fall into the water as she slipped while standing on the step. When they got back they were filled with laughter as they shared the story with me.

After falling into the pool, playing with the goats and running around the playground we took much needed showers. We spent our last night relaxing in our RV watching the campground movie, Moana. Unlike some of the other places where the movie played outside and the campers went to a central spot to watch, here the movie played at 8pm and it was viewed on your own tv. As soon as the movie was finished we went to bed in our RV for the last time on our trip.
